On November 23, 2006 the Round Table on "The
Role of Internet Technologies in Education" theme
was organized by Azerbaijan Internet Forum.
During the Round Table two statements were
made: by Mr. Osman Gunduz, AIF President, on "The
role of Internet Technologies in Education: problems and solutions"
theme, and by Mr. Samed Abasov, AzNET Project ICT training
coordinator, on "Internet in Education: technological
issues" theme.
Round Table was attended by Nazim Rustamov,
Associate Professor of Computer Programs Department of ASOA,
Rahid Alekberi, Technical Director of Delta Telecom, Rasim
Aliguliyev, Director of the Institute of Information Technologies,
Gulnara Salimova, Informatics teacher of School #7,
Rahile Aliyarzade, Informatics teacher of European
Lyceum, Matanat Ahmadova, teacher of School #264, Isfandiyar
Aliyev, Chief of Sector in MCIT, Emin Huseynov,
UNICEF representative, Hidayet Tagiyev, Associate Professor
in Teachers Institute, Akif Aliyev, representative
of the Ministry of Education, Rasim Bakhshi, HP representative,
Murad Maksudov, AzNET Project Manager, and other guests.
During the meeting schools computerization process, activities
in the way of Internet application in education, connection
of some schools to Internet within the different projects
were outlined. In their speeches teachers highly appreciated
the positive role of Internet Technologies in the education
process.
It was stated that there were some problems and sometimes
serious gaps in this field, and some efficient proposals for
eliminating these problems were made during the meeting.
In the course of discussions it was emphasized that there
was some sparseness in Internet technologies application in
the schools. It was noted that the great importance is paid
for providing more effective coordination from the Ministry
of Education and to the creation of Coordination Council and
Unique Information Centre within the "ICT Application
in Education" State Program. Great significance was attached
to defining the responsible person for ICT issues in schools
and speedy realization of this project.
During statements such issues as teachers ICT background
as well as lack of methodical means were touched upon. It
was stressed that the lack of educational e-materials, in
particular internet version as well as e-content problem are
confining the teachers' choice opportunities. It was noted
that no unique standard was prepared for internet resources
in education field.
Omission of appropriate means in the State Program to be
directed towards schools connection to Internet was noted
with concern. It was mentioned that connection of city and
rural schools to Internet as well as reimbursement of costs
for internet connection are pending issues to be cleared up.
It was declared that all proposals presented during the Round
Table should be presented to the Ministry of Education and
other related institutions.
Round Table was attended by the representatives of different
state, private, public and educational institutions.
